What Is The GRE Prep Club?

gre prep club

The GRE Prep Club was formed in May 2014 by the same team that runs the GMAT Prep Club.

Their goal is to provide students the necessary resources to ace the GRE using collaborative learning and information sharing.

They believe good resources and information should be shared amongst people taking the GRE and the top-scoring experts.

It is a free website dedicated to helping students learn the methods and strategies to tackle real GRE questions. It offers advice on quantitative, verbal, and analytical writing sections of the GRE.

The website features a discussion forum, free GRE practice exams, additional study materials, and partner services discounts. The GRE Prep Club has over 101,000 members and seems to be growing strong.

Pros
  • 100% free to sign up
  • Free practice tests
  • Discussion forum
  • GRE study plans
Cons
  • Fee for additional practice tests
  • Study plans may not work for every schedule

5 Things To Consider Before Signing Up

group study and research

1. Forum

This is one of the most used and popular features on the GRE Prep Club website. There have been over 55,000 posts since the beginning of the site. You can post a question you have regarding a specific GRE problem. You can also post strategy questions and study plan questions as well.

They have forum discussion sections where you can ask an expert and get an answer, which is somewhat similar to expensive tutoring. You can even post questions to admissions experts regarding graduate school. You can interact with fellow GRE test takers to find out what the experience is actually like.

2. GRE Prep Club Practice Tests

The GRE Prep Club offers two free practice tests you can take online. You can skip questions, flag for review, and get immediate score feedback. They also provide a paid practice test package for 15 additional tests, which cost around $50. You can get those same 15 extra tests for free if you post 30 discussion posts in 30 days.

The GRE Prep Club posts links to all the other free tests available online. This includes free tests from ETS, Kaplan GRE Test Prep, Manhattan GRE Prep, PowerPrep, and Princeton GRE Course. You will have access to as many tests as you need to succeed all in one place.

3. GRE Study Materials

There are numerous other free GRE test prep materials on their website. You can find their post, which outlines a detailed study plan using all of their website resources.

They have study plans for one week, one month, and three months. Each study plan is broken down into week format, so you know what to do each day. This can be extremely helpful for students who don’t know how to set up a study plan themselves.

4. Discounts and Partners

GRE Prep Club partners with most of the big GRE Prep courses and companies. As a member of their website, you can visit their marketplace and receive discounts on test prep courses, books, and other study material packages. Their main partners include Magoosh, Target Test Prep GRE, Manhattan Prep, and Kaplan.

5. Marketplace

Their website offers a marketplace where you can directly purchase GRE study materials and prep courses. Most of the GRE prep courses, when bought through GRE Prep Club, offer a $100 voucher for members.

You can also find admissions consulting, practice tests, tutoring, and test questions on the marketplace. They also have a free section that includes more actual GRE questions, free trial tutoring sessions, and more.

Real Student Results from Taking the GRE Prep Club Review Course

We wanted to find out whether students who took the GRE Prep Club review course saw a real improvement in their GRE test scores.

Accordingly, we had students take a GRE prep test before and after taking the GRE Prep Club review course. We obtained each student’s Quantitative Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning results from each test and compared them to determine a percentage improvement.

Although students saw their GRE test scores increase after completing the GRE Prep Club review course, their percentage improvement in test scores was slight. For example, one student achieved only a 16.8% improvement in score, while another only saw a 5.4% increase.

All in all, the GRE prep club seems to have harder questions than the real GRE, therefore the scores are slightly underestimated.

What Are Some Potential Downsides?

students during class

There are not many downsides to this website. Since it’s free and you can use it as a supplemental resource, we don’t think it would hurt to check it out.

If we had to choose one potential downside, it might be that additional practice tests after the first two cost money.

However, they offer you a chance to get them for free by being very active in the discussion forum. So, it depends on how you look at it.

People Also Ask

Is the GRE Prep Club website free?

Yes! It is completely free to sign up and use the discussion forum and other resources. You will also get free 2 practice tests when you sign up.

Can I use only the GRE Prep Club resources to study for the GRE?

Not really. While you can take the GRE using the free materials provided on their website, we recommend checking out some of the other GRE prep courses. If you are concerned about reaching your goal score, then those courses can provide more value. We think the GRE Prep Club site should be used as a supplement in any study plan.

Do they offer free GRE study plans?

Yes, they have created a section on their website dedicated to studying plans. You can follow their plan to the exact day and week to improve your GRE score.

Is The GRE Prep Club Worth It?

After checking out the GRE Prep Club site, we think it is worth signing up for. Since it is free, there is nothing to lose. We liked it because they offer an open discussion forum where students can speak with GRE experts. This website would make a good supplemental resource.

If you are considering a thorough GRE prep course, then we would have to go with Magoosh. They offer flexibility and numerous pricing options. We recommend signing up for the Magoosh course and using the GRE Prep Club as a supplement.
